volunteer

My signals today are taking the direction of volunteerism. I've looked at the National Missing and Exploited Children site and the Habitat for Humanity. I already support HfH and so I went ahead and signed up. The NMEC is out of Virginia, clear across the country from where I am. I can't afford to travel there and yet the help they need caught my attention while reading my Yahoo news. The first child to get his photo on a milk carton is back in the news. The photos on his website are disturbing.

Matas-Mota-Music hand-in-hand

Today on KBOO Radio Station, a featured band during the Latino program that is one I simply had to write a bit about. The band is Los Marijuanos.

If you love Mota then Los Marijuanos are a band to support. Their view of use of daily mota, their driving force to help the general public understand that it is not the "evil mata" most make it out to be, and their music that supports their views are something to watch.

They have a website that is something to check out:
http://www.losmarijuanos4life.com/index2.htm

Legalization of mota is absolutely a movement to support. So many are using and needing it to subside their aches and pains, to subside daily neurological nausea, and could provide so much more for others who do without it. My Mom would drink the tea, as my Grandmother did, if it was not illegal. My elders came to this country to become Americans and support its government so staying inside the law was important to them. Thank God for the Boomer generation that wants their Mota and wants it to be legal.

Take the case of the 2.5 million worth of Marijuana discovered in Lane County Oregon. If that crop was legal and was taxed, WOW the money the state of Oregon would make. Think how many jobs could be provided on the up and up, and how many could make their living farming again if they didn't have to hide this crop. I pray that they will be able to restore their crops even though this bust was hurtful. Oregon is a state that is closing schools, has high unemployment, has been hurt in many ways because of the number of Meth addicts, Heroin addicts, and Cocaine addicts and yet the truth be known it is the pure Mota smokers who are the leaders and providers of what money is in this state.

Mota smokers don't overdose, they don't get DT's from withdrawal, they only get in trouble when they mix it with alcohol or other drugs. The true Mota smokers doesn't cross that line and lives among us everyday, appearing to be the "average Joe citizen".

How sad for those that would have benefited from the Lane County supply, and thank God for the other farmers that keep it growing.

World goes to hell

Everyday I wake up hoping that our world will have a better day. It seems everyday its the same old terrors and tragedies and just another day.

Damn, its hell when you are depressed and the world around you is going to hell. Hell, hell, hell, we live in and the only thing left is dying and going to hell. Maybe it will be heaven upon death since living seems to be hell.

I can't seem to handle things well these days and glad that I have a blog that I can bitch on....

Bonnie, Keb'Mo and Curtis

WOW!!!!

Wow is the only word that we could utter after hearing this fantastic concert. Keb'Mo opened the act at 630 sharp, played for an hour and then came back out for one more song, with Bonnie. Little did we know the rest of the night would be more of the same from these great performers.
Bonnie only did one song from her new album but her oldies were so good too. Buy the CD if you haven't yet.

So, after a few songs, Bonnie surprises us by bringing out Curtis Salgado!! Did a great job singing with Bonnie, but his harmonica was absolutely the best. At 9pm Bonnie finishes her concert and then she comes back out. This time she brings Keb and Curtis out. They do another three songs, she says goodbye, and comes out again. Keb and Curtis in tow. It was so GREAT!!!!

Finally finished all the sets at about 945pm. The venue was great, the weather was great, even the parking and traffic were well managed. Great place to see a concert, Troutdale McMenamins Edgefield. New beer that is a cross between the Terminator and Ruby called the Rubinator. Didn't get a chance to try one but heard many raving about it.

S and I had a really great time and left feeling privileged to see such great musical legends.

Faith

The strength that Faith can bring you is the greatest strength of all. So many in my life have been an example of how Faith plays a big part in their everyday lives.

My maternal grandparents had Faith when they crossed the Rio in the 1800's. They had Faith that the two World Wars would not affect their families, members served and returned. They had Faith that the Great Depression would pass and their Faith would get them through it. They had Faith that the Cuban Missile Crisis would not harm their country and its people, they had Faith that their hard work would create a better life for their families.

So it has come to pass. Faith and the strength they got created the opportunity that I live today. I don't forget this but most often don't think about it either. Instead, I think about what could make me happy in this life. I don't have that spiritual strength that my grandmother had, she taught me and yet, I haven't been able to hold on it.

Grandmother, come to me in my dreams, lead me by my hand, and help me to go down the path of Faith. You affected so many during your lifetime including my Mom who hurts every stinking day of her life and yet has all the Faith in the world. I want her to be near me, I need her and she needs me. I just can't go there now.

I'm being selfish, I'm being selfish, I'm being selfish......

Labor Day

What is the meaning of Labor Day? For most of us it is a long weekend, the end of the summer, the beginning of school. For the most part, Labor Day is a time point that brings change.

On Labor Day weekend, 1999, I met and dated David Flores. We married in 2001 and are happily together still. We celebrate this weekend more than our wedding anniversary simply because it has the most meaning. It like many others before it and after, has been a weekend that brings change to our lives.

On this weekend in 2001, we celebrated life. Our lives but in particular mine. I was diagnosed with cancer in July and began radiation treatments in September. So this weekend, I celebrate five years of being cancer free, another milestone as they say.

So why am I up, not sleeping, and blogging. My soul needs its, I guess. My health is still poor some days so I have to celebrate the good ones. I slept in yesterday and have to assume that my mind is just not ready for more sleep. I should talk myself into trying again as I did at midnight. It is 330 a.m. on Labor Day.

Ok on to better subjects...

If Pluto is not a planet, then how will my astrology messages work? Pluto is in my horoscope today and I just don't understand anymore....

Los Lonely Boys

Concert tonight at Troutdale Oregon. Rain or Shine. After a couple of Ruby beers and all will be great and even better once the music starts. I simply love their music and hope to get my CD autographed.

Medicine Woman

I plan to write a fictional autobiography of a Medicine Woman, of a curandera, you know "in the everyday life of.." kind of story. I will attempt to produce such a story that will be intertwined with experiences of the life of one curandera that I've known. I will attempt to obtain enough background and education from her to become the next millenium curandera and carry her work on. I envision that the curandera of the future will be one that deals with problems that arise for the generation that I grew up with, so different than what our parents had to deal with. A population with less superstitions and yet in some instances already having some limited knowledge in the power of prayer and the power of the nature.

I am researching the natural "power" of living herbs, essential oils and the medicine that has survived many generations and is at risk of loss if the tradition is not carried into future generations.

I hope to find others that are looking for alternative medicine, the kind to rid oneself of everyday ailments without having to expose their bodies to the poisons that prescription drugs often cause. It is not that I do not believe and agree with the use of antibiotics and such, but I've also discovered there are alternatives for the relief of everyday aliments by and with the use of natural essential oils. These products are good in helping you avoid the need for "prescription drugs". I want to help others learn about it.

My blogging will help get my rusty writing skills ... more to come...
